humanitarian translation

Humanitarian translation refers to the practice of translating content that aids in addressing urgent human needs, particularly in crisis situations such as natural disasters, conflicts, and humanitarian emergencies. This specialised field of translation plays a crucial role in ensuring that essential information is accessible to people in their native languages, thereby supporting relief efforts and improving the effectiveness of delivering aid.

Like humanitarian translation organisations such as Translators without Borders (TWB) and Crisis Translation Network (CTN), Atenao responds to emergencies by offering translations and interpreting services at very low prices.

We work in the 5 areas of humanitarian translation

  • Emergency Communication: Translating vital information during disasters (e.g., safety instructions, emergency contact information).
  • Health and Medical Information: Ensuring that medical advice, treatment protocols, and public health information are understandable.
  • Legal and Human Rights Documents: Translating materials related to human rights, asylum, and refugee status.
  • Educational Materials: Providing translations for educational resources, especially in refugee camps or displaced communities.
  • NGO communication documents: Annual reports, press releases and press kits.
